LCI “men” harbour ulterior motives against Speaker Among – Obore

Among

Lira | On Friday, a faction of clan leaders affiliated with Lango Cultural Institution (LCI) publicly accused Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among of being behind the court ruling that prevented their planned coronation of Eng. Odongo Okune as the next Won Nyaci of Lango.

Another similar allegation was that Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, the Lira City woman MP who also serves as Health Minister, influenced the court decision.

Among and Aceng, along with other leaders, were accused during a gathering at the Lango Cultural Centre in Lira City.

Accusations arose following High Court Judge Philip Odoki’s October 30 ruling, which overturned Odongo Okune’s election as Won Nyaci of Lango.

The same ruling applied to Amb Ogwang Okul, whose election in October to succeed Yosam Odur Ebii was declared illegal, null, and void.

LCI members have expressed outrage over the ruling, which has been widely praised by the majority of Lango, including those in the diaspora.

Willie Omodo Omodo, the LCI speaker, and his group claim that the ruling was influenced by Parliament Speaker Among. Their unsubstantiated claims have been addressed.

Chris Obore, Parliament’s Communications Director, denied the allegations. He stated on Saturday that those who make such allegations have “ulterior motives” against the Speaker.

“Annita Among, the Speaker of Parliament, has no involvement in the cultural affairs of Lango. She loves the people of Lango, wishes them well, and wants to see them develop economically like the rest of the country…but she is not involved in cultural affairs.

“Whoever is bringing the speaker’s name into the cultural affairs of Lango has their own ulterior motives,” Obore added.

In his ruling, Judge Odoki, citing Article of the Lango Cultural Foundation, 2017, ordered Gender Minister Betty Amongi to degazette Okune and regazzette Odur as the legitimate Paramount Chief.
