Lira |Omara Jonathan, 35, is wanted by police in Lira City East Division for the murder of Opio Morris, 40, of Atongoko village, Ajia parish, Itek sub-county, Erute South, Lira district.
SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the regional police PRO for North Kyoga, said the incident occurred on October 17, 2024, and was reported to the Abolet police station.
Omara Jonathan ambushed and attacked Opio Morris on October 17, 2024, at around 8:00 p.m., according to the police report.
Omara is accused of using a hoe to strike Opio in the left leg and forehead, killing him.
Initial investigations also indicate that the suspect misled community members by claiming that the deceased was a thief, despite the fact that both individuals were embroiled in ongoing land ownership conflicts.
On October 10, 2024, it was reported that the deceased’s goats had entered and damaged the suspect’s potato garden. Ikika Isaac, LCI chairman addressed the issue and facilitated the payment of shs10,000 as compensation to the suspect.
However, the suspect was dissatisfied and demanded shs30,000 as compensation.
The deceased was a cook at Acolpii Army Secondary School in Pader district and had recently returned home.
When police officers from Lira City East Division received the report, SP Okema stated that they immediately arrived at the scene and filed a murder case. “The crime scene was thoroughly investigated and documented by the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO).”
SP Okema confirmed that witness statements had been collected, but the suspect remained at large.
The hoe thought to have been used in the incident was recovered from the scene, with bloodstains, and presented as evidence.
The police have strongly condemned this heinous act of violence and have asked Omara to voluntarily appear at any police station for an investigation and possible legal action.
