Soldiers plants trees for environmental security

Officers from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces attached to Mountain Division and those from Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports, and Culture planted over 200 trees at River Mpanga Bridge in Fort Portal City, Kabarole district.

The tree planting was led by Col Paul Muwonge, Deputy Commander of the Mountain Division, and Colonel Deus Taremwa, Director of Education, Sports, and Culture – Land Force.

Col Muwonge hailed the UPDF for supporting environmental and national security. He emphasised documenting the progress for future reference, particularly at the 16th Edition of the Cup.

He thanked the Fort Portal City Mayor, Asaba Ruyonga, for the land where the trees have been planted and other stakeholders like the Catholic Church, and Church of Uganda and NGOs.

Speaking on behalf of the Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports and Culture Col Taremwa, emphasised the importance of discipline for soldiers to safely complete the ongoing sports competitions.

He cautioned soldiers against any unfair play and reminded them that the ultimate goal of the organising committee is to ensure fair play.

The exercise was attended by senior and junior officers, and militants from Mountain Division and the Joint Staff Headquarters.
