UNRA announces mechanical defects on Kyoga 1 and 2 ferries

Amolatar| The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has issued a notice to the general public as well as Kyoga 1 and Kyoga 2 ferry users.

The two ferries which connect Nakasongola and Amolatar districts through the Zengebe – Namasale ferry route have experienced mechanical defects.

The defects, UNRA say, requires them to be put out of service for repairs to guarantee safe operations.

“Therefore, effective 22 July 2024, the Zengebe – Namasale ferry route will be closed until 11 August 2024 to facilitate the repairs.”

The ferry users are now advised to use the alternative route by road through Kampala – Mbale – Soroti – Dokolo  – Amolatar.

Since the closure of Karuma Bridge to heavy trucks and buses, months ago, passengers travelling from Kampala to, say, the Lango sub-region have relied on ferries.

With the ferries closed until next month, UNRA’s alternative routes will be considered, regardless of how long they are.
