Pupil, 16, strangled to death in Serere

Serere I Police in Serere district have launched an investigation into the suspected murder by strangulation of a female juvenile named Iwuno Joyce Mary.

Mary, 16, went to Idupa Primary School in Serere district. She is the daughter of Oluka David.

The tragic incident occurred on July 12 between 2am and 4am in Idupa village, Obulen parish, Olio sub-county, Serere district.

Oluka David, 40, registered her death under CRB 347/2024 of Serere CPS. He is a peasant from Idupa village, Obulen parish, Olio sub-county, Serere.

It is alleged that on the aforementioned date, Ilaku Jessica was outside picking white ants.

She then heard a door open and saw a man run out of the room. She sounded the alarm, but the suspect had already gone a long way.

The door where the deceased was sleeping with four other siblings aged seven to seventeen was opened. Iwunu Joyce Mary was found strangled to death.

ASP Edison Obukulem, the acting PRO of the East Kyoga Regional Police Station, stated that the homicide team visited the scene of the crime and interviewed witnesses.

The body was taken to Serere Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem, he added.

Okwalinga Raymond, 17, a former boyfriend, was arrested to help the police with their investigations.
