Amolatar| Oboli Allan, 20, was arrested by police from the Amolatar Central Police Station on June 12.
Oboli’s nickname is “DPC of owuwuk.” Owuwuk is a gang that targets people at night and steals their belongings. They are drug addicts who live and survive by stealing from others.
Several of his subordinates were also arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery.
The district CID team and DPC SP Twehyo Mable led the arrest operation against these suspected criminals.
The homes of Oboli Allan, Ejuru Steven, and Eryngo Allan, aka ‘wanygiri scope’, were thoroughly searched. Several robbery-related items were recovered.
Police discovered a polythene bag containing opium at Oboli’s home, and a panga and a power saw with a timber handle at Ejuru’s home.
Meanwhile, police found a claw hammer at the home of Erangu, Oboli’s friend.
A criminal case (aggravated robbery) was later filed at Amolatar Central Police Station with SD REF 03/06/2024.
Other subordinates and suspected top owuwuks in police custody are Odongo Morish, 28, Odongo Luka, 20, Ojok Emma, 18, Obete Ronald, 18, Obote Sam, 25, Adiga Ronald, 25, and Ekwaro Sam, 24.
They are all from Odongjwio cell, Apalepe ward, Amolatar town council.
Oboli told Amolatar police that he is the DPC of owuwuk. “I have not yet appointed anyone to deputise me; the rest are at the same level.”
Alfred Emong Adingi, a youth leader, has been cracking down on owuwuks. He has warned those whose names have been mentioned by Oboli to contact their cultural leaders and ask for forgiveness before they get into further trouble.
