Elegu Police captures 3 with 30kg of ivory

Police in Elegu – Uganda-South Sudan boarder are keeping three people in custody for illegal possession of ivory weighing 30 kilograms.

It would fetch them more than Uganda shillings 20millions, one of the traders involved in black market says on condition of anonymity.

The three suspects are; Hamuza Muzamil, 31, Ali Magidu, 32, and Govile Nuru, 44.

The trio are residents of Loriko West ward in Elegu town council, police say.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the police spokesperson in charge Aswa region confirmed the arrest.

“This people will be charged with illegal possession of government protected species,” he said.

“Suspects and exhibits are in police custody pending Court appearance,” Okema added.

Meanwhile, a criminal case has been opened at Elegu Police post vide SD 28/07/03/2019.
