Luwero | Thousands of pilgrims from the Lango sub-region have gathered a few kilometres from the Namugongo Martyrs shrines in Wakiso district.
The Lango pilgrims will join other celebrants across the country ahead of the June 3 Marty’s Day celebrations. The Nebbi Catholic Diocese will lead Catholic celebrations in 2024.
Pilgrims from Lango have received support from Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, Lira City’s woman MP, as they approach both Anglican and Catholic venues.
While on national duty in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Aceng ensured that her team back home was working and assisting those in need.
On May 29, MP Dr. Aceng expressed her support for Lango pilgrims through her political assistants.
Her political assistant Zena Opolot and personal assistant Moto Ronald Tobby delivered a variety of food and beverages to pilgrims.
The Catholic pilgrims made a stop in Kasana, Luwero Diocese were they were supported.
“This is in addition to the medical supplies (support) in the form of first aid that she had previously extended when they were departing from Lira City,” her office stated on Wednesday evening.
The pilgrims thanked Dr. Aceng, calling her “a selfless and everyone’s leader.” The Lira City woman MP, according to some pilgrims, considers Lango as a whole in addition to her constituents.
Lango pilgrims number over 1,000 Christians. In addition to Lira (district and city), they are from the districts of Apac, Oyam, Kole, Alebtong, and Otuke, among other districts.
Dr. Aceng also offered the same assistance to Church of Uganda pilgrims who were camping at Matugga Church of Uganda on the same day.
