Kwania residents begin receiving government restocking money

A section of Kwania district residents have started receiving shs5 million out of over shs2.4 billion allocated to the district from the Office of the Prime Minister under the Restocking Program.

Nicholas Akwang, the Principal Assistant Secretary of Kwania district who is overseeing the restocking program in the district, said the money is for restocking and not for the Lango war claimants.

He noted that for the next five years, selected beneficiaries are expected to receive the money.

Although Kwania district has a total of 50,120 beneficiaries across 447 villages, the government, due to limited funds, 10 beneficiaries per parish across the 49 parishes and wards in the sub-counties and town councils will benefit under batch one.

Akwang explained that Pearl Bank will conduct sensitisation for the beneficiaries who have received the money.

Last week on Wednesday, sensitisation was conducted in 8 sub-counties and town councils of Inomo, Inomo town, Aduku, Aduku town council, Abongomola, Akali, Ayabi, and Ayabi town council.

Same week on Thursday, beneficiaries from Atongtidi and Chawente were sensitize, followed by the rollout of the implementation phase where beneficiaries must ensure that no fraudsters swindle this money.

A lot of emphasis has been placed on the proper utilisation.

Akwang also commended the efforts of the chiefs, town clerks, local council chairpersons, and parish development committees for their hard work.

However, he warned that no official should block or misappropriate restocking funds “because all eyes are on it and arrests will surely be made if any corruption occurs.”

Ceaser Obada, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) of Kwania, while speaking to tndNews, Uganda, in his office, stated that Kwania will receive shs2.3 billion in the first phase.

This amount is not yet enough to cover all 50,120 registered individuals in Kwania, he said.

Following the results of the recently concluded population pensus, he urged the public to remain patient because these funds will eventually reach everyone across the 447 villages in Kwania.

Obada strongly cautioned those who receive the money to ensure they use it productively, further warning fraudsters to desist from trying to extort beneficiaries, as it is intended to help them improve their livelihoods through modern farming.

Joseph Adea from Baropobo, Iwal parish in Atongtidi sub-county, who received the money, commended the government for its vision to compensate the people of Lango.

He urged his fellow beneficiaries to remain patient and calm, as the program is genuine.

In the 2025/2026 financial year, the government allocated shs80 billion for the Restocking Program across Lango, Acholi and Teso sub-regions.

Out of this, Lango received shs28.4 billion, Acholi shs23.3 billion, and Teso shs24.2 billion.

The target beneficiaries for the first phase include vulnerable households, female-headed households, widows, widowers, uneducated youth who have their own homes, and persons with disabilities, all aimed at helping them recover economically.
