A notorious local thief who was whacked by a mob has died 

Lira | A mob in Lira City West on March 4 whacked Ayo Jagwa, a resident of Ayago ward in Lira City East Division. 

The incident took place from the Starch Factory ‘B’ cell in Lira City.

“It’s alleged that on March 4, 2024, the deceased who is suspected to be a notorious thief in the area was arrested by a group of unidentified mob around Starch Factory ‘B’ Cell in Lira City and beat him badly and died later,” SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO of North Kyoga, said.

SP Okema said Monday that the territorial Police in Lira-City West Division had started investigating Ayo’s murder.

The crime scene was documented and the body of the deceased was picked up and conveyed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem, the PRO added.

“A case of suspected murder by a mob has been registered and efforts to trace the suspects are going on. We appeal to the local leadership to support the Police with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators…

“… but also urged members of the public to desist from such barbaric killings instead apprehend and hand over to the Police for investigation and the suspect faces courts of law.”

On the same day [March 4], a group of unidentified mobs killed a fisherman, Okello Jaspher, 45, at Bangala landing site in Amolatar for refusing to tell them where his friend, Elilu Sam was.

Elilu, they say, is recruited by the UPDF’s Fishery Protection Unit to spy on them (people).
