Police personnel from Lira City Central Police Station conducted intelligence-led operations on the night of August 25 throughout the morning of August 26, 2026.

The operations took place in Te-alok, Atego ward, Starch factory and Tekulu in Ojwina, where thugs are believed to be hiding after attacking people.

Police say there has also been a lot of public outcry regarding their involvement in different criminal activities such as housebreaking and theft, simple robbery, phone snatching, among others, in the above-mentioned areas.

SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO of North Kyoga Region, said a total of 42 suspects were arrested and exhibits like opium, pangas, four head spears, aviation fuel and a knife were recovered and exhibited as evidence.

“Suspects are all detained in police custody pending a joint screening with involvement of local leadership,” SP Okema said.

After thorough screening, he added, files will be compiled and submitted to the Resident Chief State Attorney for perusal and legal guidance before the suspects appear in court on charges that will be guided by the state.

“We call for continued information sharing by members of the public to security forces that will allow our ground commanders to plan and effect arrest,” the PRO said in his media statement.

He added: “We pledge our commitment to ensuring a crime-free society. Our operations will continue in other areas as well.”
