Dokolo woman MP by-election updates

Dokolo | Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, the chairperson of the electoral commission (EC) is in Dokolo to release the by-election road map for woman MP. 

Dokolo women lost their MP, Cecilia Atim Ogwal on January 18 in India where she was being treated for cancer.

The ‘Iron Lady’ was buried on January 27, in Alito, Kole district. By law, her legislative seat should not be vacant for more than 60 days.

Now, on Monday 12, Justice Byabakama and his team addressed aspirants for the seat and announced a date for the by-election.

The polling date has been scheduled for March 21, 2024.

Candidates who will be nominated have only one week for campaigns starting from March 13 to 19.

Apart from voting for a new MP, the commission will use this opportunity to replace via vote casts those who died at sub-county level.
