The National Unity Platform (NUP) party president, Mr Kyagulanyi, through his lawyers, wants the Supreme Court to annul Gen. Museveni’s victory.
Kampala—9, February 2021: Uganda’s president since 1986 has asked the country’s Supreme Court to dismiss with costs a petition filed by his main challenger in the January 14 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaurwa was declared the winner of that disputed election with 58.6%. His main challenger, Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine came second with 34.8%.
The presidential race had 11 candidates, with eight of them, except Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, not scoring even 1%.
According to the Electoral Commission (EC) chairman Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, POA scored 3.26%.
Bobi Wine soon rejected the election outcomes. While incumbent Museveni and his NRM party, including some political pundits, say the 2021 elections were the ‘most peaceful’ in Uganda’s history, Bobi Wine, his party and supporters disagree.

They are calling it the most ‘shameful, violent and fraudulent election’ in the country’s history.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) party president, Mr Kyagulanyi, through his lawyers, is in court seeking the nullification of Museveni’s victory.
Mr Museveni, through his lawyers: Kiryowa and Karugire Advocates argues that he was legitimately elected in a transparent, free and fair election. Battling for his sixth term in the Supreme Court, Mr Museveni further says his victory (elections) was conducted per entire electoral laws and the constitution of the Republic of Uganda.
He also denies Kyagulanyi’s one of the many reasons for nullification that the campaigns (guidelines) were selectively enforced by security officers who favoured the incumbent who is their boss.
Through his lawyers, Mr Museveni defends the heavy deployment of police and army in villages across the country, arguing it was to secure peace during campaigns and on polling day.
Hon. Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo, the Chief Justice and head of the Supreme Court says nine Justices will hear Kyagulanyi’s petition.
