Apac I Apac district is situated north of Lake Kyoga in the North Kyoga Region (Lango sub-county). It borders Lira in the east, Oyam in the north and Nakasongola in the south. It (Apac) became a district in 1974.

Akokoro, Ibuje, Chegere and Apac are some of the sub-counties it has, including Apac municipality.

In the first week of January 2024, North Kyoga Region Police registered at least two fatal crimes in Apac.

The second crime, according to the North Kyoga Region Police PRO, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema happened between a juvenile and his aging father.

Omara Ronald, 15, according to Okema is being held by Police in Apac for allegedly killing his father, Aliro Charles, 52. The deceased is a resident of Otucoluk village, Aketo parish, Ibuje sub-county in Apac.

Okema said the report was registered to Apac Police Station by Ogwal Charles on January 3, 2024, at around 8:50 pm.

It’s alleged that Omara Ronald (suspect) has been in school in Kampala staying with Ogwal Charles and he was brought home during the festive season to see his parents, revealed Okema. However, on January 3, 2024, at 8 pm, Omara was seated outside with his father Aliro and they picked up an argument. Omara later got a stick and hit his father once. He fell, collapsed and died.

“….Ogwal Charles who happened to be their immediate neighbour was informed, he hurriedly picked up the body from the scene and took it to Apac Hospital Mortuary then he handed the suspect to Apac Police Station.

“The case of murder was registered at Ibuje Police Station; the scene was visited by the DPC Apac and his team. The scene was re-constructed and some statements were recorded from the scene,” added PRO Okema.

According to SP Okema, Ogwal Charles has also been arrested to help Police investigate why he hurriedly picked up the body from the scene and took it to the mortuary before the scene of crime team could conduct an assessment.

On January 1, a ‘first’ murder case was reported. In a statement, Police said it arrested Okello Solomon of Aminteng East, Agulu Division in Apac Municipality on an allegation of causing the death of Ekwaro Ambrose, 25, from Bar Lwala ‘B’ Cell, Western Ward, Inomo Town Council in Kwania.

Okello’s arrest followed a report that Ekwaro (deceased) followed his wife, Awidi Monica to their home on January 1, at 8:30 pm. But Okello pretended to be a brother of his wife.

Police said Okello became suspicious and called his in-laws to find out if their visitor, Ekwaro was a brother to his wife.

They told him, “No. He used to be her boyfriend.” This reply, according to Okema, annoyed Okello who started beating Ekwaro badly.

“Ekwaro Ambrose was injured and later rushed to the hospital where on January 2, he was pronounced dead by the medics. The suspect has been arrested and in custody…”
