‘Gigantic fire’ after fuel tanker overturns in Lira City

Lira I The North Kyoga Fire Prevention and Rescue Services have responded to a scene after a fuel tanker caught fire on Wednesday, September 6, at around 5:30 a.m.

The nasty incident occurred at Gwengabara, Boroboro ward along Lira-Soroti highway in Lira City East Division.

It’s alleged that a fuel tanker Reg. No SSD 321V belonging to Narus Company Ltd Kenya driven by a 32-year-old Kenyan national, Mohammed Ibrahim, was carrying an unspecified quantity of fuel from Eldoret in Kenya to South Sudan.

North Kyoga Police spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the incident. Okema earlier told TND News that the North Kyoga Fire Brigade responded and extinguished the fire using four delivery hoses and 40 litres of foam in a UP 4741 Fire Engine and UP 4690 Water Tanker.

Okema, however, said that the cause of the accident could not be established since the driver is at large.

According to SP Okema, no injuries have been registered.

This is the second time the North Kyoga Police Region has registered such an incident in the Lango sub-region.

In July, a fuel tanker also caught fire in Oyam district.
