Why UPC’s Akena heads to Apac and Kwania on Friday

Lira I Apac and Kwania districts in Lango sub-region will host dozens of UPC leaders and hundreds of its supporters on Friday, September 8, 2023, this publication has learnt.

The leaders will be led by their party president Jimmy Akena. In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 6 by the party spokesperson Arach Oyat Sharon, Akena, also the Lira City East MP is expected to grace the activities.

“This is to inform the party membership and general public that UPC shall hold party activities in Apac and Kwania districts on Friday 8th September 2023 where the Party President and Lira City East Division Member of Parliament Hon. Jimmy Akena is expected to grace the activities.

“These are part of the mobilisation activities which the Party has been and continue to carry out ahead of the 2025/2026 General Elections,” Arach adds.

She further says, “This is the time for internal arrangements which include organization, sensitization, and mobilisation, recruitment of members into the Party and identification of potential candidates who shall carry the UPC flag in the forthcoming general elections..”

Arach tells the Congressmen and women that the above, and focus on 2026 calls for sacrifice, commitment and hard work.

Although Akena has not publicly and firmly announced he’s contesting for the Presidency in 2026, early signs suggest the former First Son is eyeing the country’s top job.

The Late son of former President Dr. Apollo Milton Obote has had an improved public appraisal across the country, but more in Lango following UPC’s victory in the Oyam North by-election months ago.
