UPDF General asks Rakai Church to embrace govt programs to alleviate poverty

Rakai |Brigadier General Deus Sande who is the Commander of the UPDF Armoured Brigade has encouraged church members of St. John Mary Vianney Catholic Church in Rakai district to embrace government programs.

He told them to embrace programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga which are aimed at alleviating poverty.

Brig Gen Sande made the call Sunday as he delivered a cash donation of one million shillings and one hundred eighty-five (185) iron sheets towards the completion and roofing of St. John Mary Vianney Catholic Parish Church.

The church is located in Mutukula, Rakai district. The donations were in fulfilment of his pledge and support to the church and Christians in the area.

Fr. Alex Musoke, the Priest of the Church thanked UPDF and Armoured Brigade in particular for the timely assistance towards the completion of the church.

“UPDF is a unique force which delivers its Constitutional mandate, and on top of that, gives back to the community.

“We appreciate the contribution of Armoured Brigade and Brig Gen Sande for the mobilisation and delivery of the iron sheets to the Church premises,” said Fr. Musoke.

It is also worth noting that the relationship between the Commander In Chief of the armed forces, Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Church leaders in the country is good.

Museveni’s ‘generosity’ towards Church is seemingly being followed by his lower-ranking officers.
