Oyam, July 8, 2023: Former Erute North MP Charles Angiro Gutmoi Abacacon has died after a fatal road crash on Saturday, July 8.

Gutmoi and Debora Ogwang, another passenger he was traveling with in a Toyota Noah registration number UAW 943 died on the spot, a statement from Nwoya Central Police Station (CPS), says.

Another deceased was identified as Ogwang Dan (driver of the above car) and Goodluck Eric Jonathan, 12, all died on arrival at Anaka Hospital.

“It’s alleged that motor vehicle coming from Lira while heading to Nebbi district to attend a traditional marriage and upon reaching Ayago in Murchison game park the driver lost control and overturned the vehicle killing four of its occupants and injuring two,” a statement issued by Nwoya CPS reads.

Kole North MP, Dr Samuel Opio Acuti remembers Gutmoi and said:

“Deeply saddened by the passing on of the former MP of Erute North, Hon Charles Angiro Gutmoi in a grisly road accident between Pakwach and Arua that occurred yesterday. We are experiencing a crisis of road accidents as a country and urgent intervention is needed. In 2022, there were 20,394 accidents up from 17,443 in 2021 and 12,249 in 2020.

“2023 statistics are more worrying. We are not just losing people but losing skill, talent and leadership. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” MP Acuti said.
