FDC mourns Gutmoi
- Gutmoi was not only a distinguished public servant but also a valued member of the FDC party and the Awitong of Onywal Ipyeda Clan. His unwavering dedication and immense contributions to both the FDC and Uganda as a nation will forever be remembered.
Oyam, July 8, 2023: In May 2018, the then MP for Erute North in Lira District, Charles Angiro Gutmoi Abacacon survived a road crash on his way to Kampala from Lira.
Speaking to TND News on the phone that day in the morning from Kampala, Joy Atim Ongom, Lira district Woman MP at that time, said the FDC MP was referred to Mulago national referral hospital for specialized treatment.
After he was rescued by Good Samaritan, Angiro was first taken to Kiryandongo Hospital, bleeding profusely. He would later be referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala.
“He’s out of danger now although he has a broken leg. Health Minister Hon. Ruth Aceng told me this morning,” former MP, Joy Atim said.
Angiro was driving a Noah car with registration number UAV 089G when he had a head-on collision at Karuma.
The head-on was between a Fuso lorry registration number UAJ 730U heading towards Kamdini and his Noah car. It happened at 4:40 am.
His car was smashed beyond repair and he sustained a fractured leg.
A week earlier, Gaagaa bus had one of the worst road crashes at Nanda, Kiryandongo district in which more than 23 people died.
Now, five years since he survived death by a road crash, Gutmoi, dies of it.
“Former Erute County North MP Charles Angiro Gutmoi Abacacon has died in a fatal accident near Ayago Bridge along Karuma-Pakwach road. Two other people also perished in the accident. They were reportedly travelling to Nebbi to attend a traditional marriage,” Bonny Otim Ogwal, senior reporter with Voice of Lango FM, first reported.

Quoting him (Otim), the daughter of Rev Sam Erik identified as Deborah has also been confirmed dead. The wife of former Lira Municipality Mayor Mike Ogwang Veve is fighting for her life at Anaka Hospital after sustaining injuries, breaking her two legs. Two other people are in critical condition.

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party remembers Gutmoi as a distinguished public servant but also a valued member of the FDC party.
“As the FDC, we join in mourning the loss of a remarkable leader, a true patriot, and a beloved member of our party. we stand united with Hon. Charles Angiro Gutmoi’s family, friends, and the people of Erute during this difficult time.”
Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa sent his condolence message in a Twitter post, Saturday. “Very sad to learn of the death of Hon Angiro Gutmoi Abac Acon, who died in a motor accident this morning near Olwio on the road to Nebbi…In the August House, Hon. Gutmoi was known for his passion on issues of education, health, and rural development, among others. My condolences go out to the families of the victims of this fatal accident.”
