High taxation worries Lira City business community

Because of high taxation, traders are not buying grains.

Lira – October 4, 2022: Business people in Lira City under the Lira Chamber of Commerce and Industry have expressed concern over high taxation by the government.

The tycoons are blaming the NRM government and want taxes sliced to a fair amount. 

Speaking to journalists on September 30, 2022, the chairperson of Lira chamber of commerce and industry Deo Kibirige tasked the government to negotiate with Lira traders before taxing them.

Additionally, he said business communities are very angry after more than 21 local millers are closed in Northern Uganda.

Omara Jimmy is the director of the Kamara Miller Association. He said because of high taxation, they not buying sunflower seeds and soybeans.

Omara said he has closed the business, calling the political leaders to help them.
