Uganda High Commission in London holds farewell for Amb. Moto

Lord Popat commended Amb. Moto for his outstanding efforts which had resulted in a significant increase in trade between Uganda and UK.

London, March 12, 2022 | Uganda High Commission, London yesterday March 11, 2022, held a farewell reception for the outgoing High Commissioner, HE Julius Peter Moto at the International Maritime Organisation Premises in London.

The event was attended by senior officials from the UK government, Ireland, Heads of Missions, UK Business executives and the Ugandan community, bringing together over 200 guests.

In his remarks, Amb. Moto expressed gratitude to the Governments of the  UK and Ireland, Heads of Mission, staff and the Ugandan community for the enormous support rendered to him during his tenure.

He acknowledges, in particular, the strong working relations with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office as well as with Lord Dolar Popat, Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Uganda, DRC and Rwanda.

Lord Popat commended Amb. Moto for his outstanding efforts which had resulted in a significant increase in trade between Uganda and UK, with the latter now having an investment portfolio worth over £1 billion in Uganda. 

He highlighted ongoing key projects including Hoima international airport, agri-business, infrastructure in Namanve industrial park, solar energy and bulk grain storage and processing, which have received funding from UK Export Finance commitment of up to £2 billion. 

He urged Uganda Airlines to hasten its commencement of flights to London to boost trade and tourism between Uganda and the UK.

The Ghanian High Commissioner, HE Papa Owusu-Ankomah, who spoke on behalf of the diplomatic corps, commended Amb. Moto for fostering relations with many Missions. 

A representative of the Ugandan community, Mr Drake Mugisa, applauded Amb. Moto for supporting diaspora initiatives, facilitating the formation of Uganda Diaspora Foundation that comprised all ethnic communities of Uganda, hence making the Mission more accessible and ensuring outreach services.
