Uganda, Ireland to boost bilateral ties and investment

Dublin, Ireland 7, October 2021: The Uganda’s High Commissioner to United Kingdom (UK) who is also accredited to Ireland, H.E Julius Peter Moto on 1, October held a bilateral engagement with Director for Africa, Mr. Alan Gibbons.
The two high profile persons met at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Dublin to discuss bilateral matters and promotion of trade, tourism and investment between Uganda and Ireland.
The meeting was also attended by the Honorary Consul of Uganda to Ireland, Dr. Sylvia Katete Gavigan and her Mission staff.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner underscored Uganda’s commitment to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries for mutual benefits.
Amb Moto expressed the importance of implementing the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed in September 2019.
“It will further boost bilateral cooperation in the areas of diplomatic relations, political consultations, education, health and governance among other priority areas,” the Mission added, in a statement to TND News, Thursday.
Amb. Moto appreciated Ireland’s recent support to Uganda in the fight against Covid-19 by donating 335,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.
Further, he lauded Ireland’s support for the re-election of Judge Julia Sebutinde to the International Court of Justice, and the support to Uganda on the humanitarian needs of refugees to implement the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF).
The Director for Africa, Mr. Alan Gibbons reiterated the commitment of Ireland to strengthen the cordial bilateral ties both countries enjoy.
He also applauded Uganda for supporting Ireland’s election to the UN Security Council for the 2021-2022 period and the quick facilitation for Amb. Kevin Colgan, Ambassador of Ireland to Uganda to present his credentials to H.E the President of Uganda.
During the visit, the Mission extended consular services to Ugandan and Business Community in Ireland from 29 September to 04 October, 2021.
The services included processing of passports, collection of newly issued passports, national ID registration/collection, dual citizenship application and advice to potential investors.
