Okello Olwa is still under custody at Lira Central Police Station.
Lira – February 4, 2022: The secretary of Lira District Land Board was Thursday night arrested by security team over what the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Lira termed as “smuggling”.
Francis Okello Olwa, according to RCC Egole, was smuggling lands documents out of office to unknown place. “He’s safe in custody,” Egole said Thursday night.
The suspect had put dozens of land documents in his car. Sources told TND News the documents contain transactions on lands in to both Lira City and Lira district, respectively.
Okello who also doubles as the District Information Officer and Acting Clerk to Council is still under custody at Lira Central Police Station as investigations continue.
He was arrested few hours after the swearing in of Lira City Land Board members on February 3 by the Lira High Court Chief Magistrate.
Some are now alleging that there has been rampant cases of forgery and illegal transactions in the department by the arrested officer. Police is yet to issue a statement why Olwa was arrested.
