Kotido RDC Onoria said the decision was meant to make communities know the importance of health workers.
Kotido – January 20, 2022: The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kotido, Ambrose Onoria has withdrawn all the health workers from five health facilities across the district.
His decision follows a threat to life targeting more than ten health workers in the district.
An incident has been recorded in which unknown thugs attacked a house of a midwife at Napumpum health centre III at night. The thugs’ attempts to break into her house were futile.
In December last year, unknown gunmen shot dead a parish chief and injured a health worker at Panyangara, Kotido South division.
Similar incidences also happened in Kacheri, Rengen and Nakapelimoru sub-counties.
RDC Onoria said the decision was meant to make communities know the importance of health workers.
He added, “The medical services will resume only when the communities show commitments to guaranty the security of health workers.”
He advised the affected communities to receive health services from the general hospital.
Kotido District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Joseph Lomongin said he has no objection on the matter.
“I also want the lives of the civil servants secured.”
Threat To Life (TTL) is described as an incident whereby someone’s life is in real and immediate danger.
It evokes a response under Article 2 of the Human Rights Act 1998 placing an obligation on law enforcement agencies to take reasonable steps to protect a person whose life is in Real and Immediate Danger.
