Soroti gets more police outposts to curb terrorism

 Soroti—24, November 2021: Security team in Soroti have moved to set more police stations and outposts across the district and city to combat crime and terrorism.

The decisions come after recent deadly terror attacks in the country and the ‘most likely crime increase especially during festivity’.

Patrick Okumu is the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Soroti. He reveals the district has received new a district police commander (DPC) and that more police personnel will be sent and deployed across the established stations.

Okumu says Ocokcan and Awaliwal sub-counties have been renting premises for the police offices.

To combat crimes and terror activities in the country, Okumu asks priests (Houses of God) to ask Christians to mobilize resources to purchase metal detectors for their churches.

“The district authorities have made it mandatory for mourners to be checked thoroughly at entrance before they access the burial grounds,” he told TND News.

The police stations to be boosted are sub counties of Awaliwal, Dokolo, Gweri Asuret Katine, Tubur and others.

Okumu is asking locals to provide land in areas where there is no government land to enable stations be set.

This call comes just a week after Uganda Police Force senior officers commissioned East Kyoga Regional Offices. During the commissioning, police personnel were warned to be patriotic while executing their duties.

Andrew Sorowen is the Director Welfare, Production and Sports. While in Soroti, Sorowen asked the public to know that police services are free of charge.

“Whoever seeks for money should be reported,” he announced, last week.
