Lira–11, November 2021: A councilor representing Kakoge Ward to Lira City West Division Mike Ogwal has petitioned Lira City Council Clerk over failure by Lira Urban Transporters SAACO to remit revenue collected from Lira bus and taxi park, respectively.
In a letter dated 8, November 2021 addressed to the City Clerk, Mr Edward Kiwanuka Gwavu, Ogwal underscored that Lira Urban Transporters SAACO that were contracted by Lira City West to collect revenue for two trial months has never remitted shs39m to the division account.
According to Ogwal, the contract in the first place was erroneously awarded to Lira Urban Transporters SAACO by the Division Clerk, Ms Lillian Ocare on orders of Lira City Council Speaker, Patrick Ogwal.
He further explained that the two months trail contract has ended but contractor is continuously collecting the revenue, a move he said may cause financial lost to the Division Council.
Ogwal has now given a two-day ultimatum to the City Clerk to ensure that the audit department carry out an audit and come out with the findings before he can seek for legal redress from other organs.
Lira City West Division Town Clerk Ms Lillian Ocare has, however, declined to comment.
Anyeko Machanga Benard is the Communication Officer of Lira Urban Transporters SAACO. He told TND News that they have remitted the money to the Division Council account on 04, November 2021 after they were given a bank account on 3, November 2021.
According to Anyeko, the Division authority delayed to give them bank account making them to deposit the money late “after the expiry of their two months contract”.
Edward Kiwanuka Gwavu, the City Clerk for Lira City Council said he was yet to find out the truth from Lira City West Division authority.
Kiwanuka vowed to take action once he gets the truth that Lira Urban Transporters SAACO has not been remitting the money collected from Lira bus and taxi park because.
“I do not want any financial lost to the Council,” he told TND News.
