Lira – 18, June 2021: Some MTN Uganda mobile money dealers in Lira City have expressed anger following a depreciation in commissions drawn from transactions.

Last month, MTN Uganda reduced withdrawal rates “which has had a negative effect on the commission rates”, a dealer says.

The situation has been worsened more by customers who are by passing direct withdrawals and opting for agent to agent withdrawal at zero cost.

Dennis Okello is a mobile money dealer. He says they are registering “very low commissions of late”.

He further says mobile money transactions have also reduced during the current partial lockdown and they are making huge losses.

Nsubuga Roger, the MTN regional service operations manager says the reduction of mobile money withdrawal rates is meant to benefit their customers.

“It is upon every mobile money vendor to ensure that customers are not bypassing direct withdrawals to minimize losses,” he advised.
