Manafwa overtakes Kampala on Wednesday, new Covid-19 tally shows

A Ugandan male, 40 years old, a resident of Wakiso district is the latest to die of Covid-19.

National – 3, September 2020: Kampala has fallen behind for the first time in nearly two months in recording Covid-19 contacts and alerts.

Out of 176 new cases for Wednesday confirmed on Thursday by the Ministry of Health, 172 were contacts and alerts.

A statement by the Office of the Director General Health Services in the Ministry of Health, Manafwa district recorded 70 cases from contacts and alerts and Kampala with 39.

Seventeen (17) were from Kikuube, 13 from Buikwe, 10 from Mbale, 9 from Moroto, 5 from Mukono, 2 from Hoima, 2 from Tororo, 1 from Buvuma, 1 from Kyenjonjo, 1 from Mbarara, 1 from Namasindwe, and 1 from Wakiso.

Four foreign truck drivers; 2 Kenyans, 1 from Congolese and 1 Rwandese tested positive for Covid-19 at different border points and their entry into the country was prohibited.

“One (1) new Covid-19 death registered today. A Ugandan male, 40 years old and a resident of Wakiso district. This brings the total Covid-19 deaths to 33,” a statement from the Ministry of Health reads.

Two health workers, 1 from Jinja and 1 from Kampala also tested positive from samples analysed on Wednesday.

Uganda now has a total of 3,288 cumulative confirmed cases. 1,532 recoveries have been recorded since March this year.

On Wednesday, 5,453 samples were tested, and to date, 391, 335 cumulative Covid-19 samples have been tested.
