Covid-19: 155 new cases, 2 deaths confirmed in Uganda

National – 27, August 2020: The Ministry of Health has confirmed 155 new Covid-19 cases from 4,513 total samples tested on Wednesday, 26, August 2020.

Uganda’s cumulative confirmed cases have now reached 2,679, a statement from the Ministry shows.

Of the 155 new cases, 140 were contacts and alerts: 71 from Kampala, 12 from Kikuube, 8 from Jinja, 8 from Wakiso, 6 from Mbarara, 6 from Mukono, 5 from Tororo, 4 from Gulu, 3 from Kitgum, 3 from Pader, 2 from Kisoro, 2 from Buikwe, 2 from Luweero, 1 from Bundigugyo, 1 from Busia, 1 from Isingiro, 1 from Kapchorwa, 1 from Kasese, 1 from Kiryandongo, 1 from Kyegegwa and 1 from Mbale.

Nine health workers, 6 from Kampala, 2 from Wakiso and 1 from Jinja also tested positive. They are among 155 new cases.

Five Ugandan truck drivers from different points of entry also tested positive for Covid-19. Two from Malaba, 1 from Mutukula, 1 from Busia and 1 from Bwera.

One returnee from UAE tested positive. 1,268 Ugandans have since recovered from the virus.

“Uganda has recorded 2 Covid-19 deaths today; both are males aged 58 years from Kapchorwa district and a 59-year-old from Mbale district. The cumulative total of Covid-19 deaths are now 28,” says the Ministry in its Thursday statement.

Since March this year, 363, 802 cumulative Covid-19 samples have been tested.
