Gulu, COVID-19 report: 76 people have been put on quarantine

The country’s total cases as of Good Friday stood at 53 with no death. Three have later tested negative and were to be discharged by Ministry of Health.

In Gulu district, a bold decision was also taken by the district authorities to quarantine 76 people who were highly suspected to be having signs and symptoms of the novel coronavirus.

In his message to citizens and residents of Gulu on Friday, the LC5 Chairperson, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, gave an update on the situation in his district – below, he wrote:

“Receive warm greetings from the COVID-19 Gulu task force. We also continue to thank you very sincerely for the level of discipline, compliance and the support in the implementation of the Presidential directives and the precautionary measures against the spread of the deadly disease, Corona Virus.”

He added: “In Gulu, the Taskforce has continued to work very closely with different partners and the community, and we would like to provide the following updates.”

  • So far, all the samples sent to Entebbe have tested negative and there’s still no confirmed case of COVID-19 in Gulu.
  • A total of 76 people have been on quarantine (46 self-quarantine and 30 on institutional quarantine). So far, a total of 57 people have finished the mandatory 14 days on quarantine and have received Discharge Certificates but our team will continue monitoring them.
  • A total of 13 people were put at the Isolation facilities and so far 12 have been discharged. The one remaining is in a stable condition and also tested negative.

Meanwhile, the chairperson also gave an update on how companies, organisations and individuals who have so far contributed to the district COVID-19 Task Force. More than Uganda shilling 62m have been contributed.
