Alebtong – Every after five years in Lango sub-region, some politicians find attractive sobriquet to use in order to enthuse and draw electorates closer to them.

In the 2016 general elections, Erute County North had a woman who was called “Gwok Adako Dang Mako” literally meaning “even a female dog can catch”.

Even with such attractive nickname at that time, NRM’s Christine Akello Ogwang, a teacher by profession could not even manage to come second. The race was won by FDC’s Charles Angiru Gutumoi Abacacon.

Ahead of 2021 general polls – another aspirant for Alebtong District Woman MP seat, Ms Barbra Akech has found herself a nickname to help her “do a political goodwill”.

Ms Akech who’s also the Alebtong District Secretary for Health and Education, is optimistic she will dislodge the incumbent Woman MP, Achen Christine Ayo.

In 2019, Achen spoke “nothing”, according to a Daily Monitor recent article, a report the Woman MP has, according to claims, threatened to drag the publication to Court for “spoiling her names”.

“I’m telling you to be with open eyes and to know that the future of Alebtong is in my hands. Akech will this time go to Parliament. May the God Lord gives you favour. Thank you,” Akech said in a recorded video clip, now viral on social media.

She added: “Prior, I stood under NRM party and my votes were not enough but I respected the party and supported the flag bearer and she went [won] but she spoiled her journey and I think I was the spare tyre; so you the people of Alebtong, pick me and put me in the vehicle and I shall drive Alebtong district very well.”
