Veteran radio broadcaster, Mark Olwal dies

Death has robbed media family in northern Uganda the entire country of Mark Olwal.

Mark – who actively worked as a broadcaster, majoring in sports (football) analysis, dies from Lira regional hospital on Saturday morning, from where he was rushed.

“Brothers and sisters, on a sad note, we inform you of the passing on of Mr. Olwal Mark- a veteran radio personality who worked with Radio Mega for long, radio Lira, radio North and lately Voice of Lango FM. He breathed his last at midnight from Lira regional referral hospital where he was rushed to earlier in the day after profusely vomiting blood. Inform others. MHSRIP!,” Patrick Rolex Akena, his friend who works with Radio Unity in Lira, wrote on his Facebook timeline, Saturday morning.

Mark – was much loved across entire northern Uganda during his time of employment and work with Mega FM in Gulu town.

After leaving Mega FM on mutual consent as he said then, nearly six years ago, he lived a simple lifestyle before he went back on air – with Voice of Lango FM, still as sports analyst.

“Mark was an intelligent broadcaster, fanstastic sports analyst, his voice drew people closer to the radio set,” TND News Uganda’s Founder and CEO, Milton Akwam recalls.

“We have lost a media icon, a media pillar and a friend. Mark deserves annual remembrance,” Mr. Akwam eulogises departed comrade.
