Arua – Nine refugees at Omugo refugee’s reception center are under police custody.
The accused [whose names have not been disclosed by police] stole a gun No.6024 SPC after assaulting a police officer, Kasimiro Garaziano who’s attached to the camp. This incident happened on 6, November, 2018.
The incident arose when some refugees complained and demonstrated over little food ration, with others claiming that they completely missed receiving food distributed days before.
The demand sparked protests leading to cruel disarmament of a police officer, with some humanitarian service providers also being held by angry and hungry refugees.
The situation was later calmed when a team of police from Arua CPS arrived at the camp and sensitized them.
South Sudan refugees who have just entered the country are kept at a reception centre pending allocation to various camps.
Angucia Josephine – the West Nile regional police spokesperson told our reporter that all the nine suspects have been charged with robbery at Arua CPS vide CRB 2965/2018 as investigation continue.
