Gulu – Eight cartons of impounded sachet waragi that were being stored at the division headquarters have grown legs.
They include 2.5 cartons of sachet of Uganda Waragi, 4 cartons of bond 7 and 2 cartons of Royal Navi.
Gulu district Local Council 5 vice chairperson, Simon Peter Oola said the alcohol went missing from Bar Dege and Pece division headquarters on Monday this week.
Oola says the disappearance of the impounded alcohol was reported by the volunteers who are implementing the Gulu district alcohol ordinance.
“The volunteers who are implementing the operations reported to us saying some cartons of the sachet waragi they impounded had gone missing from the division head quarters stores,“ Oola says, in an interview on Monday.
When reached for comments, both the LCIII chairpersons for Pece division Kelly Komakech and Bar Dege’s Patrick Oola Lumumba were not available in their offices.
Gulu district early this year decentralized the implementation of the alcohol ordinance.
In 2016, Gulu district passed the alcohol ordinance, prohibiting the sale and consumption of alcohol from 5:00 pm in the evening, a move supported by dozens of NGOs working in the district.
