Police statement on LC1 elections

By David Ongom Mudong

Police Spokesperson, North Kyoga Region

In North Kyoga Region, the Local Council 1 elections yesterday [Tuesday] went on smoothly except in some polling stations in Lira. Fourteen [14] polling stations never voted.

In Oyam district, 10 polling stations never voted, 14 polling stations in Apac never voted and 01 polling station in Dokolo also never voted.

The reasons for these were that, there are voters who were not suppose to vote in such polling stations but turned up to vote. The forgery of voter slips was also cited and hence escalating complains and confusion that led to delays, forcing the exercise to be postponed to today 11th/July/2018.

Meanwhile in Lira district, a GEF 21/2918 has been opened to investigate circumstances surrounding the assault inflicted on Police and Army officers while on duty and some civilians during voting exercise at Central park polling station in Central division, Lira Municipality.

The report indicates that police and army officers were pelted with stones that prompted them to disperse the rowdy crowed with tear gas.
