In two months, Uganda Police Force (UPF) said she has registered forty two cases of kidnap across the country.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martin Okoth Ochola revels this during a press conference from the Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala on Wednesday.
IGP Ochola said that 20 kidnap cases were found to be self kidnap and two were kidnapped for ritual purposes.
Of the 42 cases, seven victims were brutally murdered according to IGP Ochola, citing late Susan Magara who was kidnapped and later found killed.
He said three suspects have been arrested after leading Police to where they were keeping the innocent victims.
He also added that eight victims have since been rescued by Police while seven victims are yet to be rescued by Police and sister security agencies.
“Analysis indicates that these cases fall under many categories. Kidnap for ritual purposes, kidnap for passion, self kidnap and others,” he said.
“Many have been taken to Courts and one convicted,” IGP Ochola added.
Police widens intelligence networks
As Police and her sister security agencies work to avert rampant murder and kidnap cases in the country, Police Chief called on members of the public to be watchful.
Joyful speaking Ochola, said they have intensified patrol and visibility across the country on top of what he termed intensified intelligence services.
“We are enhancing public movement and vigilance,” he added.
Public urged
Members of the public have been advised to report any cases of kidnap or missing person to allow time for rescue, asking them to avoid self kidnap.
Police also asked public to avoid wiring any amount of money to kidnappers.
