Omoro District Prioritizes Education In Next Financial Year

Omoro district on Wednesday passed a budget of Shs25 billion, giving priorities to the education and health sectors in the 2018/19 financial year. This is an increase from last financial year`s approved budget of Shs19.3 billion.

The district gave priorities to education and sports with Shs 11.7 billion accounting for 47%, health receiving Shs 3.5billion.

Other sectors are production and marketing getting Shs1.1billion, which accounts for 4.8%. Administration was allocated Shs4.9 billion reflecting 19.8% and finance getting Shs330million reflected as 1.3%.

The  roads and engineering  sector got was allocated Shs1.1 billion, water, 427 million, natural resources Shs235 million, community based services Shs913 million, planning unit and internal audit receiving Shs109 and Shs47 million respectively.

Omoro district vice chairperson Isaac Newtown Ojok said the district’s budgetary allocations demonstrate commitment to enable middle-income status by 2020.

Ojok expressed the district’s hope to strengthen the district`s competitiveness for sustainable wealth creation, employment and inclusive growth for the youth.

“We want to involve the youths in participating in sustainable wealth creation strategies and development of the district through competitiveness,” Ojok said.

Omoro district chairperson Douglas Okello Peter said all the district staff should work hard to ensure the money is realized.

“I appeal to all the town councils and sub counties to ensure that all revenues are realized so that our plans are effected,” Okello said.
