Kole North Member of Parliament, Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti, has called upon the Security Minister and related agencies to intervene as high cases of crime continue to affect the Lango sub-region.
MP Opio cites police reports from 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, which indicate cases of burglary, arson, murder by mob justice, and domestic violence are high in Lango.
Dr. Opio Acuti raised the statement as a matter of national importance on Thursday, November 5, 2026, on the floor of Parliament.
In his submission, he indicated that the Uganda Police Crime Report showed that North Kyoga, under which the Lango sub-region falls, has been among the top four regions with the highest reported cases of crime.
In addition, he indicated that the Lango sub-region has been ranked as number one in burglary, arson, common assault, murder by mob justice, murder by domestic violence, and child-related offences.

Additionally, it has been ranked second in animal theft over the same period.
He stated that the 2026 indications show no reduction in these crime cases. As a result of the worrying trends, social and economic activities have been affected.
Couples cannot move to church together; one has to remain at home as a security guard to guard against burglary, and at night, they face the same challenge.
The Kole North MP called on the minister to treat this as a matter of national importance and provide a comprehensive statement on the causes, drivers, mitigation measures, and interventions to address this crime matter.
The Uganda Police recently undertook crime operations between June and September 2026 in a nationwide operation targeting produce theft, burglary, and mugging. This led to 22,009 arrests, resulting in 6,875 court appearances, 5,611 remands, and 329 convictions.
Officials have attributed the rise in crime to land and property disputes, domestic and family conflicts, economic hardship, substance abuse, organized criminal gangs, and mob justice.
During the session, the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oboth Oboth, gave space to respond to the matter raised by Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti.
Immediately, Second Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga assured Kole North MP Dr. Acuti that the government was aware of the security concerns and was strengthening its interventions to address criminal activities across the country.
Kiyonga said the Minister of Internal Affairs had provided an update on government efforts, including the deployment of additional police personnel to strengthen security operations and reverse the rising crime trend.
