I Promise My Father, in the Name of God Almighty, I Will Leave Twitter/X When PLU Is in Power, Never to Be Seen on X Again– Gen Muhoozi Promises

Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has made a fresh promise to his father, President Yoweri Museveni, declaring that he will permanently quit social media platform X, formerly Twitter, once the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) takes power.

In a post published on October 29, 2026, Muhoozi directly addressed his father, whom he referred to as Mzee, and made a pledge linking his continued presence on the platform to the political ambitions of the organisation he chairs.

“I promise Mzee, in the name of God Almighty. I will leave Twitter/X when PLU is in power. Never to be seen on X again,” Muhoozi wrote.

The army chief did not explain what prompted the promise or indicate when exactly he expects to leave the platform. However, the statement has attracted attention because of his frequent and often controversial use of X to communicate political views, respond to critics and engage with supporters.

In previous posts, Muhoozi has defended his online activity, describing those who criticise his frequent posting as political novices. He has also claimed that his social media reach is greater than that of any Ugandan media house, while insisting that his lighter posts demonstrate that he is a normal person rather than a robot.

Muhoozi, who chairs the Patriotic League of Uganda, has openly expressed ambitions for the organisation to take political power, with his supporters increasingly mobilising around his possible presidential candidature in 2031. His latest promise therefore connects his social media presence to the future political fortunes of PLU.

This is not the first time the military chief has announced plans to leave X. On January 10, 2025, he declared that he was quitting the platform to concentrate on his military responsibilities, also referring to his Christian faith. However, he returned to the platform just days later.

His latest statement has consequently raised questions about whether this will be his final departure from X or another promise that could change with time. Unlike his previous announcement, he has now specifically tied his exit to PLU taking power.

For now, Muhoozi remains active on the platform, where he continues to communicate with Ugandans and discuss political developments. Whether he will honour his pledge and permanently disappear from X if PLU takes power remains to be seen.
