Journalist Remmy Bahati is reportedly linked to the takeover of an X account previously associated with former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, according to emerging reports. The account has since been rebranded as Global Africa Brief, a news start-up.

The account, which previously operated under the handle @AnitahAmong, is now using the handle @GlobalAfricaHQ and the name Global Africa Brief. Despite the change in identity, it reportedly retains approximately 614,000 followers, the same number previously associated with Among’s account.

The rebranding has attracted attention because of the account’s large following and its previous connection to one of Uganda’s most prominent political figures. The change also raises questions about what happened to the account and who currently controls it.

Reports indicate that the transition took place last weekend, with the account’s earlier posts reportedly deleted. Its biography has also been changed to read, “The Brief Beyond Headlines,” signalling its new identity as a news platform.

Remmy Bahati, a journalist known for her reporting and commentary on Ugandan affairs, has been mentioned in connection with the account. However, the available information does not independently establish who currently owns or operates it, or the precise nature of Bahati’s involvement.

The development has also revived interest in the account’s previous association with Among, whose political career has attracted significant public attention. The retention of such a large audience could give the rebranded platform an immediate reach among users who followed the account before the changes.

The report also recalls an October 2022 incident in which armed men dressed in plain clothes reportedly raided the home of Among’s father in Fort Portal and took away her brother, Kelvin Katungi, and cousin, Latif Mugume. At the time, the army said five people had been arrested over allegations of impersonation and illegal possession of a firearm.
