The Amolatar Women’s Mills (AWM) has unveiled a major double-event designed to transform local agriculture, sanitation, and commercial farming in the district.
After a high-level planning meeting on Wednesday, the group set dates for a massive community cleaning and agricultural drive on October 30, 2026, followed by the highly anticipated first Amolatar Poultry Expo on November 25, 2026.
In two weeks, the road to Ochero and Amolatar as a whole will see a massive wave of community action.
AWM management has called upon all women across the district to join a community cleaning drive on Friday, October 30.
The day marks a strategic shift toward commercial farming and financial security.
On that day, members will deposit funds into their SACCO and finalise hosting plans for the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
The mobilisation comes with major backup; local NGO, Northern Greenfields Africa, is donating five seed-planting machines to the group to eliminate the burden of manual hand planting and accelerate commercial production, crop bulking, and market supply.
Value addition is also taking centre stage.
Following a donation of over 50 kilograms of hibiscus seeds, local farmers are being urged to move past traditional consumption and process the crop into high-value packaged tea and medicinal juices to secure extra household income.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, November 25, the focus shifts squarely to livestock with the launch of the Amolatar Poultry Expo. The event aims to completely overhaul the local poultry value chain.
Farmers attending the expo will get access to modern packaging systems for chicken products, herbal and contemporary poultry disease treatments, and breed improvement techniques, including the castration of in-breed cocks for superior quality.
Others are commercial caging and feeding systems for domestic and large-scale setups, and live comparisons of traditional local breeds versus modern improved varieties.
When asked where this massive expo would take place, members broke into a synchronised chant of “Chuma Amon,” designating the popular grounds surrounding the state-of-the-art value addition facility previously donated by President Museveni.
Responding directly to critics of their pace, one member declared that the group is moving rapidly, with plans to fully install all five planned value addition mills within the presidential facility by the end of November 2026.
Management has issued a blanket invitation to all residents, reminding the public that entry is open to every woman determined to change the scope of agribusiness in the district and Lango sub-region.
