Junior Minister for Public Service Lydia Mutende Wanyoto has reportedly asked President Yoweri Museveni to clarify his position on the ongoing endorsements of his son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, by supporters across the country.
The remarks were reportedly made during a Cabinet meeting on Monday, September 28, when ministers were discussing various government matters under the chairmanship of President Museveni.
According to reports, Wanyoto, who is also the Mbale City Woman MP, asked to speak after telling the President that she had an issue she wanted to raise with him.
“Mzee, there is this thing going on of people and the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) endorsing Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. We want your guidance,” Wanyoto reportedly said.
She further questioned why people were already endorsing Gen Muhoozi when Museveni was still in power and, according to her remarks, some members of Cabinet still wanted him to remain in office.
“We also wonder why people are endorsing General MK yet we still have and want you in power,” Wanyoto reportedly told the President.
The question reportedly came amid growing public endorsements of Gen Muhoozi, who serves as Chief of Defence Forces, with PLU supporters and other groups openly discussing his political future.
