Frank Gashumba has launched a fresh attack on Ugandan pastors amid the ongoing controversy over his challenge to religious leaders claiming supernatural healing powers, insisting that criticism and backlash will not silence him.
He also revealed that his wife, Patience Mutoni Malaika, is worried about the dispute.Speaking on Radio 4 on Monday morning, Gashumba accused some pastors of dishonesty and said he had anticipated their reaction. He maintained that he would continue questioning miracle claims despite the growing criticism from religious leaders.
Gashumba explained that he had reassured his wife that challenging issues affecting the country was part of his public responsibility. He insisted that speaking out was necessary to promote accountability and address what he considers misleading claims. The controversy erupted after Gashumba challenged pastors, prophets and apostles who claim to heal the sick to demonstrate their powers under verifiable conditions.
He initially offered Shs200 million before increasing the reward to Shs500 million for anyone who could heal a critically ill patient in a hospital setting.Several religious leaders have since responded, with Pastor Robert Kayanja defending the miracles associated with his ministry and Bishop David Kiganda questioning the idea of turning faith into a public contest. Pastor Juma Mulokole has reportedly expressed willingness to take up the challenge.

Despite the backlash, Gashumba remains defiant, questioning why religious leaders who claim healing powers do not routinely visit hospital intensive care units to pray for critically ill patients. He has also defended his preference for directly supporting vulnerable people with school fees, food and other necessities rather than giving all his charitable contributions to religious leaders.
