Sir Tito Winyi Senior Secondary School in Hoima District has elected new leadership of the alumni association.

The incoming team will run the association for the next two years, with the current CAO of Oyam district, Alex Felix Majeme, elected as chairperson.

He replaced Prof. George Ladaah Openjuru, the Vice Chancellor of Gulu University, during the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The ceremony took place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the school premises. Prof. Openjuru described the new chair as a hardworking person who can use his connections to push forward the development of the school.

Ladaah, who joined Sir Tito Winyi Senior Secondary School in 1983-84, stated that the school has produced a number of key, strong people in the country.

After Winyi, he joined Makerere University, and became a Vice Chancellor at Gulu University because of Sir Tito Winyi.

The outgoing chair also appreciated all the old students who responded in big numbers, while encouraging the school management to cooperate with the incoming leaders to ensure that all remaining gaps are fixed at the right time.

Alex Felix Majeme thanked his predecessor, Prof. Ladaah, for the great work he did during his term of leadership by bringing together and uniting everyone to ensure that Sir Tito Winyi remains in the history of this country.

He noted that Sir Tito Winyi has been accredited by the National Council of Sports to be one of the training facilities during AFCON 2027.

Majembe, who joined Sir Tito Winyi in 1989-1991, said a few years ago, student enrollment was only 600. He appreciated the leaders under the board for ensuring that enrollment has increased from 600 to 1,093, a very big achievement.

Of the current enrollment, male students are 496 while females are 597, with over 93 teachers, including those under the PTA and on the government payroll.

He pledged to perform his roles by making sure that no member is left out so that the young generation should work hard to become future leaders.

During the AGM, Old Boys and Girls donated computers, printing machines, and smart projectors to boost digital learning.

They also raised dhs 5.3 million to buy chairs for the girls’ wing and pledged more support for girl-child education.

Head teacher Allan Tusiime attributed the good working relationship with the board to ensuring the past legacy since the school was established in 1971. He promised to make Sir Tito Winyi Senior Secondary School a centre of excellence in O and A levels.

At Winyi Senior Secondary School, he said, they teach students both academics and agricultural work, saying the school was purely created to be an agricultural institution.

Deputy IGP, James Ochaya, an old student of Sir Tito Winyi Senior Secondary School from 1988-1900, appreciated all the head teachers who have run the school since it was created to ensure that they have disciplined students.

“I am so proud of this school because it has given me a foundation to reach where I am. I was also a general mobiliser for both the military side and normal administration, and today I’m a Deputy IGP.

“Therefore, I’m appealing to all the general public to make sure that they don’t ignore the school that has built their future,” he said.

He encouraged students to study hard and avoid being undisciplined while seeking more knowledge from the teachers, and to respect their parents, teachers, and the community.

Rev. Jacob Ateirweho, the Archdeacon of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, delivered the Bishop’s message at the ceremony, stating that the Church of Uganda planted Sir Tito Winyi Senior Secondary School in Bulindi on a distinct foundation around 1971, an uncompromising foundation of academic excellence fused with Christian moral integrity.

Rev. said that the diocese calls upon the old students to move from fellowship to active stewardship through forward-looking priorities.

The diocese commends the government, through the National Council of Sports and the UPDF Engineering Brigade, following the formal handover of the Sir Tito Winyi playground as an official AFCON 2027 training facility.
