Former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has attracted attention after her X account, formerly known as Twitter, appeared to disappear, with reports indicating that its previous posts had been deleted.

The account reportedly changed its handle overnight from @AnitahAmong to @GlobalAfricaHQ, raising questions about what happened to the prominent politician’s social media profile.

Among previously used the account to share parliamentary updates, public statements and messages to her supporters and constituents.

A screenshot of an earlier search listing showed the profile under Among’s name, with more than 613,000 followers. The listing also identified her as the Speaker of the 11th Parliament and Woman Member of Parliament for Bukedea District.

The profile information indicated that the account joined the platform in November 2020. However, by Sunday morning, users attempting to access it were reportedly met with an “Unable to load” message.

The disappearance and reported change of handle sparked concerns that the account could have been hijacked. However, the available information does not confirm whether it was taken over by another person, renamed, deactivated or affected by a technical problem.

The development attracted mixed reactions from social media users. Former Member of Parliament Barnabas Tinkasiimire reportedly welcomed the possibility of Among starting a new page, although the reason behind the account’s apparent change remains unclear.

Meanwhile, Among’s Instagram account remains active. Her last reported post was published on May 12, when she congratulated President Yoweri Museveni on his inauguration. No explanation for the situation involving her X account had been established in the report.
