At least five people have been confirmed dead and several others badly injured after a trailer lost control and crashed into three vehicles at Kabwohe Stage in Sheema Municipality.

The tragic accident happened on Tuesday evening at around 8:30pm as the trailer was travelling through Kabwohe town in Sheema District.

According to eyewitnesses, the trailer suddenly lost control before ploughing into three vehicles that were parked at the busy stage. The impact caused serious destruction and left several people trapped in the wreckage.

Two of the victims have so far been identified as Umar, a boda boda blocker, and Living, a motor vehicle mechanic who was working around the stage when the accident occurred.

Police and local residents continued searching the wreckage for other possible victims who could have been trapped underneath the damaged vehicles. Several people who survived the crash were also reportedly left with serious injuries.

The official cause of the accident had not yet been established by the time of reporting. However, some residents blamed the poor condition of the road, saying it is narrow and has many potholes.

Residents also called on the government to urgently improve the road, especially because Kabwohe is a busy commercial town where heavy trucks frequently pass. They warned that loaded trailers can easily lose control on the damaged road.
