Lira district: 435 to sit 2026 PLE in Ogur sub-county

PLE 2026

A total of 435 candidates have registered for the 2026 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) in Ogur sub-county, Erute North, Lira district.

Lira District Women Farmer’s Network (LDWFN) offered candidates morale but confirmed a high rate of school dropouts among young learners in Ogur.

The LDWFN Chief Executive Director, Grace Atim Ogwal distributed sugar and success cards to Primary Seven candidates across the nine government-aided primary schools in Ogur ahead of the upcoming exams.

Speaking on October 29, 2026, to head teachers at their respective schools, Ogwal noted a low turnout of learners, especially in the upper classes, including the 2026 PLE candidates.

Atim, a former contestant for the Lira District Woman Member of Parliament and a founding member of the LDWFN, highlighted this concern.

She added that as a community-based organization (CBO), they have developed strategies to support the government and politicians in ensuring children stay in school.

She mentioned that items donated in the second term, such as mathematical sets and PLE question-and-answer booklets, are intended to prepare the candidates for their exams.

She concluded by stating that as a young CBO helping the community, their vision is to extend their projects to schools across Lira district, believing that the distribution of PLE booklets will improve the upcoming 2026 PLE results.

Moses Acar, the head teacher of Ekwang Lwala Primary School, stated that his school is heavily relying on the question bank booklets provided by the LDWFN to ensure candidates stay focused and confident during their PLE.

“This PLE booklet has greatly helped our candidates, and I believe we will have positive results this year, especially since we have only 49 registered candidates,” he said.

Boniface Apoka, the head teacher of Akor Primary School, which has only 27 registered candidates, appreciated the LDWFN’s initiative to distribute PLE question-and-answer booklets.

However, he lamented the current lack of resources to run the school. He noted that due to government directives for parents not to pay school fees, the school is facing challenges in areas such as feeding teachers and covering other operational costs.

Paul George Odongo, the head teacher of Ogur Central Primary School, which has 49 registered candidates, noted that the materials provided by the LDWFN in the second term have given them hope.

“Our candidates are now focused, confident, capable, and destined to shine,” he said. Odongo urged the learners to work hard to become ambassadors who can take up various positions in the country and beyond, and he warned them to avoid bad peer groups that could ruin their future.

Innocent Opio, the head teacher of Aler Primary School, expressed his happiness upon receiving the question banks and booklets.

“What you have given to us has made a difference in the lives of our candidates. Based on our assessments, I believe they are all going to pass well,” he stated. Aler Primary School has a total of 37 candidates awaiting their PLE.

Among schools whose PLE candidates recieved support are Coo Rom Primary School with 57 candidates, Akano Primary School with 50, Akangi Primary School with 66, Okwaloamara Primary School with 46, Ogur Primary School with 54.

Others are Ogur Central Primary School with 49, and Akor Primary School with 27, among others.

The 2026 PLE began with a briefing on Friday, October 30, 2026, while the exams will commence on November 3 and 4, 2026.
