After a three-day investigation, Police in Hoima City have recovered a stolen gun and arrested a suspect to assist them with the ongoing investigation.
Speaking to the media on Monday, the Albertine South Regional Police spokesperson, SP Julius Allan Hakiza, said the gun was stolen on Friday, October 23, 2026, from a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier in Bujumbura cell.
Hakiza noted that the gun reportedly went missing shortly after the UPDF officer moved away from his house, leaving the gun inside.
Shortly after, an unknown man broke into the house and took the firearm.
SP Hakiza said the recovered gun had 30 rounds of ammunition.
However, Hakiza, in his communication, did not mention the time at which the gun reportedly got stolen.
Meanwhile, the suspect is detained at Hoima Central Police Station (CPS) in Hoima City as investigations continue.
