Police in Hoima district have arrested the Deputy District Resident Commissioner (RDC), Aine Christopher, on charges of assault and malicious damage.
Aine was arrested on Wednesday and taken to Hoima Central Police Station (CPS) after a four-month police investigation into allegations filed by Byabazire Henry to the OC CID accusing him of assaulting him.
SP Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police PRO, confirmed the arrest of the district president’s representative, saying that Byabazire Henry had reported the case on June 6, 2026, at the office of the OC CID.
Since then, the case has been under investigation, Hakiza said.
With legal advice from the Resident State Attorney for Hoima, who advised that a suspect record a statement, the police were able to arrest and charge Aine with assault and malicious damage to a mobile phone.
PRO Hakiza also said that the case file will be resubmitted to the Resident State Attorney for further management.
The police have called on the communities to remain calm as further legal process continues.
When contacted, Byabazire Henry said that Aine Christopher had ordered the arrest of four of them on allegations that they had grabbed his land in Kubale village, Karongo, Kitoba sub-county, Hoima district.
“After we got arrested, we were taken to the district police station in Kitoba by eight police officers, including the police officer in charge of lands.
“It’s when he (Aine) came in and started beating us in the presence of the OC CID, saying he is above the law and untouchable,” Byabazire said.
He added: “It was out of that unlawful treatment that I opened up a case against the deputy RDC, a case which led him to the police”
