Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara has left Uganda for Australia, a development that has temporarily put his planned anti-corruption tours in the Ankole and Kigezi subregions on hold.

According to the update, Balaam travelled abroad after being delegated by President Yoweri Museveni to undertake official duties in Australia. The trip means the minister will not immediately proceed with the planned activities in the two subregions.

However, other sources claim that the minister also intends to use the trip to check on his family members who are living in Australia and spend some time with them.

The reported family visit has attracted attention because Balaam has been involved in activities aimed at addressing corruption and improving accountability within local government structures.

The planned anti-corruption tours in Ankole and Kigezi were expected to focus attention on concerns affecting local government operations and the delivery of public services. Their postponement means the activities will have to wait until further arrangements are made.

Balaam has served in government as Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development before taking on responsibilities in the Local Government docket. His public role has involved engaging with local leaders and communities on government programmes.

The two explanations have not been independently confirmed in the information available. It remains unclear when Balaam will return to Uganda and when the anti-corruption tours in Ankole and Kigezi will resume. For now, the planned activities remain on hold as the minister undertakes his reported engagements abroad.
